It’s CARNIVAL time!! Our spring carnival is just around the corner and we would love to have your family join us for **FREE** Hotdogs, popcorn, water, music, face painting, games and prizes!! (You may want to bring a blanket to sit and enjoy your dinner.) There will also be Kona ice and additional snacks available for purchase. Bring the whole family for a fun night together!
Thank You!!! We’ve had the opportunity to have some amazing programs come to us this week in preparation for Earth Day next Monday (April 22nd).
Brigit’s Bounty came on Thursday to plant cucumber seeds with the second grade classes. We will be caring for these for the next couple of weeks before returning them to the community garden to continue growing. First graders will also be planting as soon as we can reschedule from our cancelled time on Wednesday.
Eco-Cycle volunteers joined first grade classes this week. We learned more about how and why to recycle on Thursday and made our own recycled paper on Friday. Kids will be bringing these home next week!

iReady Assessments All students will be taking their Spring Math and Reading iReady assessments next Monday and Tuesday. We’re looking forward to seeing yet another example of all the great growth that is taking place this year!
April Birthdays We will be celebrating April Birthdays next Friday, April 26th. If your child has an April birthday and would like to bring treats, please let his/her teacher know!
This Week at Thunder Valley…
1st Grade Reading
Our new text is called A Picnic in October. It’s told by a boy who’s family is going to Liberty Island to celebrate the Statue of Liberty’s birthday.
2nd Grade Reading
This week we began a fictional story about a family heading west. It’s called Going West.
1st Grade Writing
We have been writing our opinions about recess, pets, specials and other topics.
2nd Grade Writing
We are using a graphic organizer to write paragraphs about the children we are reading about. Then we’ll use this same organizer to write about a character that we make up.

We’ve continued our work identifying 2-D and 3-D shapes and their attributes.

We’re using attributes to identify, draw and define 2-D and 3-D shapes.
1st Grade Social Studies
Groups used a variety of recyclable items to create a robot! It was fun to get creative as we talked about so many different ways to help our planet!
2nd Grade Social Studies
We took a break from our Geography studies this week to apply math skills to solve The Case of the Missing Eggs challenge!

Nuestro carnaval de primavera está a la vuelta de la esquina y nos encantaría que su familia se uniera a nosotros ** GRATIS ** ¡Perros calientes, palomitas de maíz, agua, música, pintura de caras, juegos y premios! (Es posible que desee traer una manta para sentarse y disfrutar de su cena). También habrá hielo Kona y bocadillos adicionales disponibles para su compra. ¡Traiga a toda la familia para una noche divertida juntos!
¡¡¡Gracias!!! Hemos tenido la oportunidad de recibir algunos programas increíbles esta semana en preparación para el Día de la Tierra el próximo lunes (22 de abril).
Brigit's Bounty llegó el jueves para plantar semillas de pepino en las clases de segundo grado. Los cuidaremos durante las próximas semanas antes de devolverlos al jardín de la comunidad para seguir creciendo. Los estudiantes de primer grado también estarán plantando tan pronto como podamos reprogramar de nuestra hora cancelada el miércoles.
Los voluntarios de Eco-Cycle se unieron a las clases de primer grado esta semana. Aprendimos más sobre cómo y por qué reciclar el jueves e hicimos nuestro propio papel reciclado el viernes. ¡Los niños traerán estos a casa la próxima semana!

Evaluaciones de iReady Todos los estudiantes tomarán sus evaluaciones de Spring Math y Reading iReady el próximo lunes y martes. ¡Esperamos ver otro ejemplo de todo el gran crecimiento que se está produciendo este año!
Cumpleaños de abril Celebraremos los cumpleaños de abril el próximo viernes 26 de abril. Si su hijo tiene un cumpleaños en abril y le gustaría traer golosinas, ¡hágaselo saber a su maestro!

Nuestro nuevo texto se llama Picnic en octubre. Lo dice un niño cuya familia va a Liberty Island para celebrar el cumpleaños de la Estatua de la Libertad.

Esta semana comenzamos una historia ficticia sobre una familia que se dirige hacia el oeste. Se llama Going West.
